I guess I’ve always been a sucker for history even though I would never admit that in public (had a very terrible teacher in high school, who enjoys jokes and cakes on Fridays). What made some people so great that they are forever remembered? When women reign a country the size of Russia she is worth looking into, also she reigned the country for over 60 years without getting killed or some other way overthrown from the throne.
Killing someone was not really just for vicious murderers, it was something everybody used to get what they wanted. I cannot see a connection on when people was prosecuted and when they got away with it. Often is was common knowledge who the murderer was, but they kept their place in court or even got promoted.
Well back to the series… I wasn’t as good as I expected. I found out that she had an extremely healthy appetite for young and viral men, and at the same time a lifelong love relationship with Potemkin. I’m going to leave out his title as he got promoted several times throughout his life. The series focuses on her sexlife, they really got things going at that time, don’t mind me sharing, right..?!?! And how she send Potemkin out to the war against the Turks and the conquering of Crimean Peninsula. And last that she tried to have her son Paul removed as her successor, and have the throne succeeded directly to her grandson Alexander.
I would have loved to get a broader view of what she accomplished in her reign. Did the population love her? Did they like her? Did she go anywhere else than the Winterpalace? Even though it is entertaining to see the promiscuous life at court, it would have been nice with more details regarding her job as empress and not just her bedroom manners.
It’s enjoyable but that’s about it…
